The internet works by a bunch of servers connected to each other. It can be used from almost everywhere on the planet. The internet is used for many things such as: research, games, social networks, and marketing. It is like a huge library at your computer at home. You can get almost anything accomplished on the internet.

I use the internet for many things. I use it mainly for school. It is very convenient to not have to go to the library every time I have to do a project for school. because the internet has just about everything on it, I no longer have the need to have a dictionary. The internet has many sites that can define any word within a second. I also use the internet for email and social networks to talk to my friends.

Other people use the internet for almost the same reasons as me. Besides those uses there is shopping, advertisement, games, email, and downloading stuff.

In my opinion, I think that the internet has both helped and hurt society. It has helped it by making life more convenient and people have become more knowledgeable. Almost everyone in society would be lost without the internet. It has become a part of the culture and without it we would be like cavemen. I think that it has hurt society by making it lazy. People do not have the need to go anywhere because everything is at home on their computer. Also it has made people very reliant on it.

In President Obama’s speech to the graduates he said that all the technology we have now is a distraction. That it has gone beyond helping us for information and it is now entertainment. He said that it is going to be hard for our country and democracy to keep up with how to use it. In my opinion, I think he is not right or wrong. All the technology we have can and can not be useful. Yet entertainment is not a bad thing. Just because the PlayStation and Xbox are used for entertainment does not mean that it will harm anyone. In conclusion, I think he is wrong.

In my opinion, I believe that this is not the dumbest generation. Generation Y is one of the dumbest generations though. Although there are a few exceptions. Not every single person in Generation Y is dumb. I think this generation has the most potential because of the advantage of technology that we have. I think that the technology has worked against us because using Google, Bing, Wikipedia, etc. makes everything instant to the fact that we get lazy. We do not learn anything because of the fact that we can just look up the answer to anything instantly.

For the most part, Generation Y is the dumbest generation yet. I think that the next generation will be worse do to the fact that technology increases. When technology increases, it becomes easier to be lazy. People do not want to learn anymore. Earlier generations did not have the advantage of the technology we have now, thus causing them to actually have to study, research, and read.

In some ways all the technology we have can play a part in giving us knowledge. Researching things on the internet will eventually put the knowledge in our heads. Although it is not even close to being as effective as actually reading and studying. Video games, on the other hand, do not have much positive impact on us. The only positive impact it has is when the game is educational. Such as Free Rice.

There is not much anyone can do to prevent technology from being advanced. The only thing the future generations can do is try to learn instead of being lazy.

Generation Y has been labeled as the dumbest generation due to the fact that most people think that we have it easier and that we do not want to do anything. This is because most of this generation does not try to change the people’s view of them.

Recently, Apple has made its newest device called the iPad. Some of the things the iPad features are the following: email, Web browsing, games, music, etc. It is incredibly similar to the Apple iPhone. One thing that differentiates itself from the iPhone is that it is like a miniature computer. It is a thin, portable computer.

The iPad has had both positive and negative feedback from the consumers. Some people think that it is just a glorified iPhone. Yet others believe that this is the best thing to hit the market. Some dislikes of the iPad are the internet services. Because it is marketed as a portable computer, one would expect to have 3G internet at all times instead of Wi-Fi. Although 3G is being offered soon, it will cost an additional $130 to the original price of $500. In the economy today, it would just be safer to stick with your regular home computer or laptop using your monthly paid internet service. In the positive sense, the iPad has been said to be easier, lighter, cheaper, etc. The size is what appeals most to the consumer. As well as the complexity of Apple’s electronics. Apple has made their electronics and softwares to be incredible simple compared to other computers services.

In my opinion, I think the iPad is a waste of money and a bit pointless. I think that it is just a glorified iPhone. If someone were to use this as their main computer, they would have to buy an attachable keyboard. I think this because it is very frustrating trying to type on a touch screen; let alone trying to type full length papers. The “small” iPad would suddenly turn into something small with a large, bulky keyboard attached to it. I, myself, would never waste my money on buying this.

To the average person soda can rings appear to be completely harmless, but to birds and fish this small piece of plastic could end their lives. It is very common for a bird to get its beak caught in one of the rings, preventing it from breathing, causing it to die. Fishes constantly get their gills caught in the rigs, once again preventing them from breathing. The biggest issue with plastic soda rings is how harmful they can be to a bigger species; dolphins. The dolphins get their snout caught and tangled up in the rigs as well as choking on them.

As a group we created a hypothetical game that could potentially prevent all this from happening. The game is called ring collector. In this game, you collect as many soda can rings as you need to progress to the next level before the dolphin, fish, bird, etc. reaches it first. After you collect ten rings you move to the next level. With each new level passed the game becomes more challenging. Every five levels passed, a group of trained volunteers or hired experts will help collect soda can rings, garbage, and other potentially harmful objects from the ocean. This is all made possible by donations for the cause, funding by The Florida Dolphin Advisory Committee (DAC), and payed advertisements on the game website.

In the past I have only used Google as a search engine and for email. As a search engine, this has had a positive impact on my academic life. Whenever I need information on something for a project, research paper, etc. I usually use Google to help gather information.

In my opinion, Google Books can have the most positive impact on my academic life. I think this because I read a lot. Most of the time I do not have time to go to the library or the book store because I currently do not drive. It is a hassle when I procrastinate to beg someone to take me to go buy a book for a project. It is way more convenient to log into my Gmail account and look up a book on Google Books. Another positive aspect is that it is free. I myself, have never used Google Books because I have never heard of it up until now. Now that I know that I have the chance to use this so conveniently I will most likely begin to use it.

I think that Google Docs is a very helpful thing for someone who does not have Microsoft Office for their computer, or in that case a computer at all. Anyone can just log into their Gmail account from anywhere at any time, and use it. It is also good for someone who does not have their computer files backed up on a separate hard drive. For instance if someone’s computer crashed or suddenly broke all there files would all be deleted. If all those files were saved on Google Docs they would still be there no matter what happened to the computer.

Google Calendar is both good and bad, I think. In the positive sense, it is great for people who are constantly near a computer. With Google Calendar they can really never forget to do anything. I think the best part about this is how Google will send you a reminder via text message or email. This is very helpful because most people have their phone on them at all times. In the negative sense, Google Calendar is completely useless for someone who is rarely ever on the computer. They would never schedule events on it to be reminded.

For most people who are constantly on the computer, it would probably be incredibly difficult for them to go about their day without most Google applications. An alternative for Google as a search engine and Google Books would be a library. An alternative for Google Calendar would be a daily planner, a household calendar, or a cell phone calendar.

In the future, I think I would most likely use Google Books. I would use it because I enjoy reading books and it is free. I do not think I would ever use Google Calendar because I am rarely on the computer.

The newspaper has been in the United States since 1690. They have always been there to spread the news all over the country. In the late 1990s, the newspaper was threatened by the television and the internet. As Salon.com said,” Journalism as we know it is in crisis.”

One of the pros of the news on the internet is that it is more convenient. It is instant and already at home for people to use. In my opinion the best part of this is that you get to read about more than one person’s point of view on the topic. Another reason the internet is more popular is the fact that it is free. In today’s economy people are doing whatever it takes to save money. Today global warming is a big issue. With newspapers eliminated, many trees will not have to be cut down; helping prevent global warming.

I do not think there are many strong points for the newspaper against the internet. Some people do not enjoy reading off of the internet; some people like to have something tangible in there hands to read. I am one of these people. I hate having to sit on the computer to read something. I would much rather have the daily paper in my hands to read what is going on in the world.

I think that having the news on the internet is better for news. I think this because so many people can contribute to the news on there. It is also completely instant. What i would like to see happen is that the newspaper will take over the internet news. I think that would be awesome considering all hype about the internet. Although this would most likely never happen.

Twiddla is an online “white board.” It is a program such as Microsoft Paint but in a chat room. You can draw, add pictures, edit pictures, and many other things. It is all done publicly or privately in an online chat room. It could also be used for fun. If a child was at home alone, with nothing to do, he could go on to Twiddla and draw with a friend. You can do all these thing from one side of the world at the same time as someone one the other side of the world.

For educational purposes, I think that Twiddla can be used for online tutoring or for group projects. If a student was struggling with a math problem and need help from his teacher, tutor, his peer, etc. he could easily log on to Twiddla and get the help he needs. It is much more convenient to do that in the middle of the night than to rush over to someones house. For business, I think that Twiddla could be used as a last resort. If a business employee needed to be across the country but his plane got delayed, he can go onto Twiddla to be part of the business meeting without delaying it. It is also a much cheaper way to do things. In one way Twiddla is very convenient, but Twiddla is inconvenient at the same time. It is convenient because it is, once again, cheaper, it is faster, and you do not even have to leave your house. It is very convenient for people who get “stage fright.” With Twiddla, the “stage fright” person would not have to be in front of a group of people t0 present his idea.

I, honestly, could not see myself using Twiddla. I would only use it for a last resort. Just because I would not use it unless I had to, does not mean that it is not useful. All people differ, I could not see myself using it.

As most people who own a cell phone, I use my cell phone to make call and text messages. Occasionally I will use my phone as a camera or video camera. I can also use my cell phone to go on the internet, check my email, store contacts, send and receive picture messages, IM, and play music. I mainly use my phone to text like most teenagers in the United States.

In all honesty, I do not think that my cell phone should make me a better person. I think that I should make myself a better person without the help of something that is an inanimate object; with my abilities. I think that cell phones can make people terribly anti-social. I think this because many teenagers can not even have a conversation in person because of text messaging and phone calls. I am sure most teenagers can but this defeats social interaction. I think that social is based on face- to- face conversations. Cell phones are very convenient and are a very large blessing but I don not think I should revolve my life around an electronic.

I think that cell phones can make the average student worse. Cell phones can be used to cheat in so many ways. One of the easiest ways to cheat using a cell phone during a test is to text someone who knows the answer. It is completely silent and its all typed out there for the student to just read and then copy it. I am sure there are many ways to use a cell phone in a positive way as a student such as the following: texting someone to know the homework if you forget, doing homework together over the phone, getting help from someone, studying together, using the calculator.

I think that cell phones can be used in every way to help others in need. If someone gets in a car accident, they can use their cell phone to get help. If someone is in a potentially dangerous position, they can call someone to, one again, get help.

In my opinion, I think that cell phones have everything they need. It would be crazy to see anything more technological than an Apple iPhone. Any more technology and we would have miniature computers with us.

My ideal cell phone is very average. It would be small and thin. All i need my phone to be capable of is making calls and text messaging. I do not need anything extravagant; just the basic stuff. In all cell phones are pretty cool.

Twitter is a social network that allows users to speak what is on their mind about what is going on in “their world.” Many people use Twitter this day and age. The ages differ from age twelve to adults. In my opinion, I think people “tweet” of the lack of things to do, and the want to get what is on their minds out.

I believe, that the explosion in popularity of Twitter shows how fast technology progresses in The United States. Twitter is just another social network that has surprisingly been taken over by adults. Twitter has been helpful in many ways. The issue that happened in Iran was shocking and Twitter users in The United States helped the cause. When Iranian Twitter users were being shut down by their government, American users changed their location to Iran so that if push came to shove they would be shut down and not the Iranian protesters. I believe that what the American Twitter users did in the situation was very selfless. They helped people they did not even know to try to get out of a situation.

Soon following the tragedy in Iran, a famous entertainer, Micheal Jackson, overdosed and died. What happened in Iran suddenly became irrelevant to The United States. I think that this shows that majority of the people in America are way too easily distracted. Yes, what happened with Micheal Jackson is sad but many people are dying in Iran. One person who is famous is not more important than all the people dying in Iran. Especially when we can do something to help.

In conclusion, I agree with D.B Grady when he calls Americans fickle. We care about what is “cool” at the moment and when it passes, we never even look back. Americans need to appreciate the past.
